The Korean baseball team LG did not hold an official outdoor training session before the game against Doosan in Jamsil on Nov. 18. Sunday’s game at the peak of weekly fatigue. With a 5 p.m. game scheduled and temperatures soaring, the program was replaced with a light warm-up at the indoor training center.
Outfielder Moon Sung-ju was the only player to take the field. For nearly an hour, Moon focused on bunting drills. This was to compensate for his lack of success in sacrifice bunt situations in recent games.
LG has been recognized for its “running baseball” since its inauguration. He ran often enough to attempt 94 stolen bases in 49 games through May, an average of 1.92 per game. That was more than double the league average (0.98 per game). While the stolen base success rate wasn’t great (61.7%), stolen base attempts were highly encouraged because the bench wanted to project a “running image” to other teams.
LG Baseball is quietly changing. After a transitional May, the team has drastically changed its stolen base formula in June.
As of the 19th, LG has only attempted 13 stolen bases in 16 June games. That’s an average of 0.81 per game, which is below the league average (0.85). The number of stolen bases attempts, which had been declining in May, is now in line with the league average in June. In April, LG attempted a near-record number of stolen bases, averaging 2.46 per game, and in May, they averaged 1.30 per game.
As we approach the midway point of the season, the top and bottom of the 10-team field is taking shape. The value of a win has also increased since the beginning. As they continue to fight for the lead, LG seems to be shifting to a team that plays it safe rather than taking risks. The stolen base rate in June was worse at 46.2% (6 attempts), which is something to look at given the flow of the game, but it’s a natural adjustment to the summer physical conditioning of the lineup.
Instead of reducing stolen base attempts, LG increased sacrifice bunts. In June, they had 13 sacrifice bunts, the most of any club in the top 10. They are choosing the safest way to advance. Moon Sung-joo’s special midday bunt training sessions overlap.
LG had a rough start to the month of June, but with a five-game winning streak under their belt, they are back on the upswing. Their record in June was 8 wins, 1 draw, and 7 losses. However, they are worried that their batting power, 토토사이트 which has been dominating other teams since the start of the season, has slumped a bit.
LG has a team batting average of 0.257 (9th) and a team OPS of 0.716 (8th) in June after scoring 15 runs on 19 hits against Jamsil LG Electronics on the 18th. How LG’s bench, including manager Yoon Kyung-yeop, interprets this trend will determine the team’s “formula for advancing runs” going forward. For now, LG’s baseball is moving differently in June.
