Yang Hyun-joon makes his highly anticipated A-Match debut…and local media takes notice

South Korean winger Yang Hyun-jun made his highly anticipated A-match debut. Although it was short-lived, the debut was also highlighted by the local media.

Head coach Jürgen Klinsmann’s squad drew 0-0 with Wales in a friendly at the Cardiff City Stadium in Cardiff, England, at 3:45 a.m. ET on Aug. 8. Klinsmann’s first five games in charge have resulted in three draws and two losses.

On the day, Klinsmann’s men managed just four shots on goal. The players had a strong showing in the league last weekend, but were a bit heavy for the friendly. They lined up in an aggressive 4-4-2, but gave up too many chances.

In the second half, with the game still not turning around, Klinsmann pulled out his substitutes. Yang Hyun-joon took the field in the 39th minute for Lee Jae-sung. It was Yang’s A-match debut.

There wasn’t much to show for his seven minutes of action. Yang’s A-match debut didn’t leave much to write home about.

Meanwhile, local media in Scotland were interested in Yang’s A-match debut. “Celtic’s newest hero makes international debut,” said The Scottish Sun, a Scottish news outlet, on Aug. 8 (KST).

“Yang has excelled despite limited playing time since joining the Hoops in 2023-24, and he can now call himself an ‘international’ after making his debut against Wales,” the publication claimed. “Having signed a five-year contract with Celtic, he faces more competition than ever before, but Klinsmann believes he has a bright future ahead of him.”

Since joining Celtic from Gangwon FC in July, Yang has been challenging for a place in Europe for the first time in his career. The step-up comes a year after he showcased his talents in a friendly against Tottenham in the ‘Coupang Play Series’ last year.

After making his European debut in a preseason friendly, Yang was immediately named to the roster for the start of the season. Coming off the bench in each of the first two games, he picked up his first assist of the season with a crisp pass against Aberdeen. He made his first start against St. Johnstone on March 27, and then came on as a substitute in the ‘Old Firm Derby’ against Rangers on March 3. It hasn’t been a long time, but he’s been steadily gaining ground. 토스카지노

Klinsmann has also backed Yang to make it to Europe. Earlier this month, Klinsmann told a Scottish media outlet, “I have high hopes for Oh, Yang, Hyun-joon, and Kwon at Celtic. They have the potential to be very good players,” he said.

Yang Hyun-joon, who made a brief A-League debut, will also challenge for a starting spot. Klinsmann’s second A match of September will be against Saudi Arabia on September 13 at St. James’ Park in England. It will be interesting to see if the Klinsmanns can get a win in just their sixth match since their inception.
